Video Installation
Moseley Slipper Baths
2015, SLIP! AV exhibition at Moseley Baths, curated by Fierce Festival
Cleanse and continue was an audio visual installation made for Moseley Baths as part of SLIP!, an exhibition of video, sound and performance held at Moseley Baths, run by Fierce! Festival and supported by Friends of Moseley Baths.
This work considers the past importance of the Edwardian baths as an environment of cleansing, ritual, social bonding and a possible space of respite, away from the everyday difficulties, sounds, pace and work that would have been common to Balsall Heathens in the early part of the 1900’s. Indicative of a ceremony, perhaps a rite of passage, the piece aims to both reflect the past, and offer a place of contemplation for the contemporary viewer.
The video was displayed on a small portable tv, sitting inside one of the old slipper baths. Each bath has it’s own cubicle and seat, creating a private space for the audience to take some time.
